Personal Bio
Growing up in New Jersey, Duncan cemented his love for music within musical theater, marching band, and jazz trumpet, which won him the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2019. Before graduating, Duncan discovered his lifelong musical medium in story-driven composition, composing and conducting an original march titled The Proud Barker for the Westfield High School Wind Ensemble, which led him to Berklee College of Music's Screen Scoring Department.
While completing his Film and Media Scoring degree under Sheldon Mirowitz (Emmy Nominee) and Max Blomgren (Spider-Man 3, The Empty Man), Duncan completed over 15 extracurricular student film scores, received the Brass Department Division Achievement Award, worked as a Core Music Peer Tutor, earned the World Tour Scholarship, and sat on the board of Berklee's Film Scoring Network.
Following his graduation from Berklee in Spring 2023, Duncan was hired as an Assistant Professor in their Screen Scoring Department in Fall 2023. To this day, he adores teaching Intro to Scoring Technology and Scoring Technology 1.
As An Artist
Inspired by legends like Bernard Herrmann, Joe Hisaishi, and Reznor and Ross, Duncan prefers a minimalist approach to scoring. He utilizes dissonance, motivic development, and distinct textures to build evocative sound worlds that draw the viewer in.
Proficiency in subtractive synthesis, music theory, sampling, and access to hundreds of unique VST libraries allow Duncan to adapt to any musical or artistic style.
Duncan loves collaborating with other hungry creatives, prioritizing brainstorming in order to provide a meticulous plan that serves the story. The more communication and discussion, the better.
